The village of Grimaldi, which has been subdivided into Grimaldi Superiore and Grimaldi Inferiore, lies dreamily directly on the French-Italian border. The multi-colored houses of Grimaldi Superiore nestle closely on to a steep slope and already welcome the visitor coming through a winding mountain road from afar.
Once you arrive at the top, the lovely view tempts you to linger around a little longer. At the place where the mule paths of the ligurian traders once used to run, you can today discover the landscape of the French-Italian border region through marked walkways starting from Grimaldi Superiore. Apart from the Torre Grimaldi, you can also tour the caves of Balzi Rossi as well as the Museo Preistorico dei Balzi Rossi in Grimaldi Inferiore, the lower part of the village. You can enjoy a swim in the very clear water on the open rocky beach of Balzi Rossi against a background of prehistoric, reddish shimmering rocks.
