Georges du Verdon is also known as the Grand Canyon of Europe and with good reason. The river that runs through it has eroded a 700 meter (2,300 ft) deep gorge into the calcite formation and stretches from Rougon to Lac de Ste-Croix (21km/13 miles).
For those looking to hike here, it is a good idea to get information and maps from the tourist offices in Rougon, La Palud or Aiguines as it can be dangerous and confusing out on the trails.
An alternative to hiking would be the car route from Corniche Sublime of the southern bank to Mescla, where the tributary Artuby meets the river. From here you drive via Pont de Soleils to Rougon and then to pint Sublime of the northern bank. From here its off to Crêtes and via Lac de Ste-Croix to the beautiful town of Moustiers-Ste-Marie.
A car ride with exquisite views makes it unforgettable!
